Simon's suggestion.....
Hi everyone,
In the last post, Simon suggested a website where you can do a survey and find out where you land on the 'political compass'. (I think he's mentioned this in class as well.) I've done it and I think it's quite interesting! It might be even more interesting if we all tried it - there would be lots to talk about! If you do it, either share results here or bring them to class this week. Click the link button below to get started.....

Here are my results:
Economic Left/Right: -3.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.15
I'm curious about the rest of you...
try it!
Not amusingly, I stand right in the middle on the economic scale, and -3.45 on the social scale. After doing the test, I think some of my answers could not be taken literally, or else the world will be in a turmoil. e.g. Not making classroom attendence compulsory.
my results:
economic left/right: -4.00
social libertarian/authoritarian: -2.92
Economic Left/Right: 4.25
Social Liberatarian/Authoritarian: 1.69
general s - will you help me chart all of these in class on tuesday??? should be interesting to compare and discuss.....don't you think?
This is really cool! I'll do it for sure tomorow before Tuesday!
Sure I will help
mine were:
economic left/right: -4.13
social libertarian/authoritarian: 0.00
It was a really 'deep' test! I really had to think about some of them....I didn't really agree or disagree..It would depend on the actual situation...Cool though!
i'm still trying to figure out exactly what these things mean but i got a -5.75 on the econnomic scale and a -3.33 on the social libertarian/autoritarian scale can someone help me figure that out
and i totally agree with tweedle dee some of those questions i really had to ponder for a while but i think that when i finaly got around to answering all the questions i was sure of them
Um...I may do the survey tomorow...I'm EXTREMELY busy today...I've been busy all day today....
This is what I got...
Economic Left/Right: -2.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.56
My results were:
Economic -4.38 and
Social Libertian/Autoritarian -2.82...
I don't quite understand the results...
For some questions, they confuzzelled (?) me. So I guessed what they meant and said my view...
bye!
my score is economic left/right
-4.25
&
social libertarian/authoritarian is -4.56
just like Gandhi, Mendela, & the Dali Lama
Just call me Padre
(it's from the movie Gandhi, just watched it this week end)
Simon....you now have company in the Right Authoritarian quadrant of the Political Compass!! Would you be surprised to hear that it's Shane??
Some of the Wed. group have added their scores to the chart - you can check it out next week.
There were a few problems with the site again today accessing page 3 - if you do it at home, you can post results here and we'll add them to the chart. You might even get your parents to try it. Predict what you think they'll score, then check it out. Have some good discussion.....
Little Mosque on the Prairie at 8 p.m. tonight - Enjoy!
Alright-I finally have my results:
Economic left/right:-3.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian:-3.44
great little mosque on the prairie episode tonight! i thought it was a lot better than the first, but i would like to hear your opinions.
Good episode of Little Mosque
but not better than the first
Shane welcom to the Right Wing Authoritarian Section. I am no longer lonely
Who is farther right wing me or Shane?
To general s......
I think Shane is, however, he'll have to confirm that himself. It's on the grid so I'll check tomorrow at school. When I first showed Shane the survey and the grid, he predicted that he would end up way up in the top right corner!! He didn't quite make it that far, but you and he are certainly 'neighbours'. I told him you'd be really happy to have company!
I got my 15 yr. old son to do it tonight and he is also left libertarian...not surprisingly.
It's fascinating, isn't it?? Thanks for sharing....
re: Little Mosque
I love the show's logo, the music, ALL the characters - especially Baber, the daughter (did you see the article in today's paper about her? - I have it at school FYI)
I preferred Episode 1, however, I'm really glad you enjoyed this one! I'll share more comments next week.....I hope you will too!
Anyone else watch it?????? Wha'dja think??
Copy and paste....good site......clips, etc.

Sorry I have been away so long! Exam time is rather crunching.
Anyway, I have to say Little Moque on the Prarie is one o the few TV shows that I watch! Hilarious. An interesting mix of paradizing Praie life, Muslim tradition, and Muslim Pregidest. It's awesome!
I have to say the best lien was fro mte fill-in religous leader (I forget the title he was filling in for and his name...)
"Beer Nuts...Wine Gums...Liqour-ice...."

I am:
Economic Left/Right: -4.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian:
-0.36
Rockign On,
Postman Craig
I really enjoyed the latest episode--I think that the first one was better though. And I think I would have to agree with Craig-that was a great scene with canadian idol and desperate housewives as well. Can't wait for the next episode!!
i unfortunately didn't watch it but I'll try to find some clips from it on Youtoub! When I get the time...soooo busy!
Ok, I stand, 3 down from the left line and 4 left of the libertarian line.I'm along with everybody else.
Umm... so, by lookign at my results, does this poll say that I am small-l liberal? If so, that is... interesting.
Rocking On,
Postman Craig
Buddy you are way farther left than the Liberal party of Canada. Buddy
I am not the most authoritarian. boo yah.
Yeah, I thought so... so what's up with my result? Something's got to be wrong with this the way this test was made. I not sure how they based the questions, so I don't think I'll ever know why I got said result. Hmpf. At least I know what I truly am, regardless of my result from computerized data.
Rocking On,
Postman Craig
I am not left wing. I am conservative. My result bothers me.
Uh...maybe your result is more accurate then what you think? I mean...I thought I was a bit more of a socialist, but I'm kind of more in the middle!
I personnaly read a neat readout that showed all the political party's views. Cosidering that I did not agree with much of anything that either liberal parties had, I think that it does not compute for me to be an authoritarian. Do you? Or is my logic psychologically discombobulated at an impasse? (I've always want to form sentences like that....)
Anyway, I also don't think that if you do not agree with your results that you should live with it. If you don't want to be what it says, don't.
Perhaps I am rambling on about irrelevancies and cluttering the boards. Heck, exams for me are tomorrow. That could be why.
Rocking On,
Postman Craig
Craig try other tests. Just type Political Spectrum Tests on Google
I agree that this test has many bugs (or features). I personally do not agree with my results at all. I would think that I'm more of a liberal, yet I'm a Bloc Quebecois according to the quiz.
I suppose this poll itself is an example of the political world- not everyone has the same views on politics, and this polls was obviously somewhat biased, becasue that is how they see each wing They probably tried very hard not to be, but that is quite an undertaking.
Rockign On,
Postman Craig
Just because of your results that doesn't show your party that you have to vote. It just roughly places you onu a grid that shows your approximate area. Just because you are left wing does not mean you cannot vote Conservative.
You could. But if you were left wing, why would you? It's just that I think of being plcaed on a compass as a demonstration of morality. So if you are to vote conservatice (small-c,) why would you have a liberal mindset? I see this as being simply a matter of logic.
Rocking On,
Postman Craig
P.S. I had both my exams yesterday... they are easy!
What if they take a stand on an issue that you agree with. But the other parties disagree there. Who would you vote then?
I actually liked my results quite a lot. I think the grid thing is actually very acuurate.
I agree.
Craig I noticed you were actually quite Left Wing.
Do not take offence to that.
You had left wing opinions in the UN debate. Agree. Remember
Uh...so what is left-wing? I'm not at all concervative!
Oh...uhhhh...left-wing means liberal! Soory bout the mistake! Um...I only wanted to test you to see if you thought I think I'm actually conservative or not!!!=:))
Left wings usually are in favour of freedom of choice but they favour more government involvment in taxes and the economy. They are in favour of equality and the enviroment and favour not as strict punishments on laws. They are in favour of rehabilitation and strict regulations on business. THey are in favour of free speech and not as much millitary funding.
I thought Liberal was near right-wing on the compass.
Almost no one could be totally agreeing with one party.
Liberal Party of Canada is the centre party in Canada. They might be a little right leaning bu Liberal is a term to describe a left wing thinker. It is almost the same as Socialist but socialist is more left wing. Not that confusing.

That shows where the major Canadian Political Parties fall on the Compass
Jsut copy and paste the site
Cool! I know I'm not a socialist but still favour freedom and environment and also not so much for punishment. Teach criminals the right things...don't punish them for life! (unless they were like a serial murderer or somone like Saddam Hussein!)
I'm a feminist to an extent. I Would definetly NOT consider mysef as a person who's extremely feminist...I'm average...kind of...maube a bit above average...my religious beleifs influence everything.
What I mean is more of a sense of morality. When I look at some of the liberal parties' (being the Liberals and the NDP) views on hot political topics I cannot at all agree with them. Certain things like being in favor of things I consider immoral the highest priorty before economics, the envioronment, and legalistics. As I see it, if your social morals are in alignment, the rest would logically follow. I don't think that this graph demographically takes such into account. It would be nice if it would.

It does stop trying to be conservative. The graph tells the truth.
the way you answer the determines what you get. in that way the graph tells the truth. but there could have been some questions you didn't understand that really affected the score. if you don't agree with your result, just take the test again.
on another note, for those who are wondering why little mosque on the prairie wasn't on, it is because of the nhl all-star game. it will return this wednesday.
