the liar one was interesting-just last week I told a big lie to my mom but after like 20 mins of enduring guilt I decided that my lie's prupose was not "good" as I had wanted it to be. So I revealed to my mom that I lied. She beleived me because I'm not a "regular liar." I wonder if she'd beleive me if I was a professional liar...

Achilles and the Tortoise doesn't make sense now that I think of it. I mean I've been given a head start by my friends in races at recess many times(I'm a slow person) but they always catch up to me. Perhaps it is because I'm not good at accelerating...

That is the exact same for me. I am slow and I always lose

The paradox of Achilles and the Tortoise is actually one of the famous "Zeno's Paradoxes" (by the way, General S., Zeno was a contemporary of Socrates - check out wikipedia!!) and if you believe Zeno's logic, both of you would be winning more races!!!

another paradox by Zeno:

"… if everything that exists has a place, place too will have a place, and so on ad infinitum"
Philosophers are such interesting people.

A Liar, Sapphire! Fire and Brimstoen for you! :)

In a sense, the paradoxes work... but based on genral, vague assumptions. A careful eyes sees through them. Read them again.

I liked the liar one-the tortoise one didn't really make sense though-because If the second person could travel faster, couldn't they gain ground and eventually catch up??? Anyways, fun to read!!

Correct. These Paradoxes don't take into account all factors regarding the subject. That's what makes a paradox work.

Even so they're really cool...a different veiw. I like the heap one. I've often thought about things like that. How many stiches does it take for a blanket to be a blanket? How many days away is close? WHen you're srawing an angle on a geometry test...If they accept one degree away, why won't they accept two??

Amusing as they are , they are deeply flawed. for example, the universal nihilism or specious present is all based on constructed ideas of what it takes for something to exist or not. As craig said, a keen eye can see that these are mostly flawed logic.
