Free the Children

"Free The Children is the largest network of children helping children through education in the world, with more than one million youth involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries. Founded by international child rights activist Craig Kielburger, Free The Children has an established track-record of success, with three nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize and partnerships with the United Nations and Oprah’s Angel Network."

This quote was taken from the 'Free the Children' website homepage. I would like you to familiarize yourself with Craig and Marc Kielburger, their phenomenal organization, and the many incredible projects they have done and are doing. Please visit their website - I have created a link to the left. After browsing and reading, please share in your comment something you read that amazed you, impressed you, or moved you!

Would you like to get involved? How do you feel we could do this?
As always, I look forward to hearing your views!

McQuarrie Reflections

Hi everyone and happy Sunday evening!

I want to thank all of you for the thoughtful comments you made in the McQuarrie Reflections you wrote last week. I learned a lot, enjoyed reading your words and was inspired by your ideas! This week, we can all look forward to a few new things and more of our favorite things, for example: 'Discussion Corner' topics during breaks, more discussions on news items and world events, more computer time and new programs - (this week we start podcasts and Flash and you'll get some time to work on the project of your choice), IS or IC (or whatever we call it!) project discussion and planning, and a new iMovie media project that we will all be planning and starting.
I can hardly wait to see you all here on Tuesday and Wednesday!

The Olympic Conflict - is there a solution?

In the links bar, you will find an article titled "London 2012 Games To Be Held During Ramadan". Please read the whole article to understand the various issues involved in this difficult situation.
What is your suggestion for the IOC?? The summer games are by tradition held in the SUMMER. According to tradition, Ramadan's dates fall during the summer of 2012. What can be done to schedule these summer games and yet respect the beliefs, customs and traditions of all athletes - including the 25% of the athletes who are Muslim??
What would YOU suggest to the IOC?????

Nuclear Testing by North Korea

In the news this week, there has been a lot said and written about Nuclear Testing by North Korea. I have created a link (in the links bar to the left) to a Wikipedia article which offers some background information about North Korea and Weapons of Mass Destruction. This is a good place to start to become informed about this important global issue.

As is often the case when the media takes hold of a current issue, you will find many varied opinions. I would like you to do some research into the North Korea situation (read the newspaper, do an internet search, talk to informed citizens) and share one opinion that you respect.

In your blog comment, please share:
1) Your source - newspaper - name, date, title of article, internet source, name of person, etc.
2) Your summary of the information or opinion shared
3) Why you respect this opinion

Please keep this simple. Your comment could say something like "CNN.com had an article on Monday called "......." which stated that "..............". I agree with and respect this opinion because ..........."

As we do in our blog, you may also comment on the comments of others. I would encourage you to do your research and make your own comment first.
I am looking forward to this discussion!
